Garden
The garden is lush and only half–tamed. Full of surprises. There are no raised beds, but wild strawberries, poppies and pumpkins growing in the grass. Hedgehogs live here, lizards, birds and stray cats like it.
Water
Water is a depth. A depth means secret. We see the reflection on the surface and at the same time we sense the hidden life beneath.
Mountains and horizons
Mountains have their own laws. What seems essential in the city and in the lowlands loses its importance on the mountain ridges. Mountains change the scale, returning the traveller to the real order of things. While the feet stumble over stones, the soul flaps its wings.
Mycelia
The realm of fungi is incredibly diverse. Beneath the variety of shapes and colours lies an invisible universe of mycelia – the threads, networks and systems by which fungi communicate with each other, with trees and with the whole forest.
Wilderness
I like to go to forests where the trees don’t grow in rows. Where fallen trunks crumble beneath centuries-old giants and seedlings sprout along them. Where budding, growing, dying and birthing all happen at the same time, naturally and in natural order. This is where I draw my strength.
Journeys
To be on the road is to leave everything familiar and safe. The state of mind and soul I experience on the road is more important than the specific place and destination. Especially on a long journey, the mind becomes quiet and focuses only on what is essential. To be on the road is to perceive with sharpened senses, to follow intuition,
to be in the present moment.
In the studio, I return to the experiences and frame of mind on the road. All the quick little watercolors I paint in all sorts of weather and conditions help me to do this.
Experiment
I enjoy discovering the hidden, making the inconspicuous visible. I am interested in the relationship between order and chance, how it manifests itself in nature and in creation. I experiment with technique – casting, spraying, washing, printing, etc. and let myself be surprised.
Illustrations for children
In my illustrations I try to tune in to children’s perception. A child’s world, unrestricted by the right angles of the adult mind, is a great inspiration for me.
