Camino de Santiago 2009
A thin 9 x 14 cm diary from the first year of my journey.
A pencil, a piece of red chalk, pigments straight from the road
(and later a set of six toothpick-sized crayons which I was treated by on the way).

May 2009
Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. For the first time, I experience the feeling of being a pilgrim on the road. Starting in France and continuing in Spain.
Carrying only the essentials. Accepting the austere rules of pilgrim hostels. Setting out early in the morning and spending the whole day on the road. Encountering exactly what you need to encounter. Feeling deep gratitude. For a drinking fountain on a sweltering midday. For a cup of coffee offered by someone on the road. For a roof over my head when it rains… For being alive.
I travel in stages, two weeks at a time each year, and after three years I will reach Santiago.
