One of my first travel diaries.
A cycling trip to Tunisia. The desert, a camel caravan.
Drawing from the back of a camel and a night in the desert.
Men smoking in tea houses.I am drawing in a small-town square. Soon, I am surrounded by a group of curious children of all ages. When they realize that I am drawing them, they sit down in front of me, each of them wanting their own picture. A boy of about ten brings his younger sister over and gestures for me to draw them together. Then another little girl brings her dad over. They want their picture too, and more and more people are gathering around…
I can’t understand a word. I hand out all the portraits, quickly pack up, and disappear into a narrow alley…
