To paint means to see better

A full day of kindly guided sketching in nature.

Walking quietly in the landscape, paying attention, slowing down, tuning in.
Drawing as attentive looking, exploration through drawing. Blind drawing.
Light and shadow. Colour relationships in nature.
Watercolor to capture the moment.
Mindfulness and presence.

All you need for this meeting are clothes and outdoor shoes. A water bottle and a snack in your backpack. You can bring your sketchbook and favorite drawing supplies, but it’s not necessary, as you’ll have everything you need, including a folding chair.

We will arrange a place to go out into the countryside together. We’ll watch. Feel the weather, the atmosphere, the time of day and season, and your own mood. Listen to the sounds, breathe the smells, feel with all our senses. We will notice details and when the time is right, you will take a pencil or other tool and let your hand draw what the eye sees. Without control or evaluation.

You can try pigments from the landscape: flowers, grass, berries, clay… try drawing with a stick, a root, moss or an ear. You can talk about what you see. What you really see. Or you can ‘just’ look. Watch the light and the shadow. Colors and their relationships.

If you want, you can try mixing colours from just a trio of primary colours. You’ll learn about the laws of colour harmony.

The possibilities of perception and observation are endless.
The most important thing is calmness and mindfulness. No pressure for results.
After this experience you will perceive more subtly, see more. And maybe you’ll experience more intensely.
